The 2021 Chevy Equinox is a great crossover SUV for drivers with families or anyone who is looking for plenty of interior space and engine power. With seating for five, generous cargo space, a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, and a comprehensive set of entertainment and technology features, the new Equinox has lots to offer. Let’s take a closer look at what’s inside the 2021 Equinox.

Equinox Seating

The 2021 Equinox features two roomy rows of seats to provide comfort for five passengers. With plenty of legroom in the second row, passengers can relax during a longer drive even if they’re in the back seat. Up front, both the driver and passenger’s seats are four-way adjustable.

The front row seats offer 40 inches of headroom and 40.9 inches of legroom, while the rear row isn’t far behind with 38.5 inches of headroom and 39.9 inches of legroom. This means that adult passengers can comfortably sit up front or in the back.

If you need to install seating for the kids, the Equinox has two complete sets of LATCH connectors on the outer rear seats, and a tether anchor for the middle seat.

In its base trim, you get cloth upholstery. To add your own personal touch to the interior styling, you can choose from three color options: jet black, black/brandy, and ash gray. For a little more luxury, you can upgrade to leather seating, heated seats for the front row, and power adjustable front seats in the Equinox’s higher trims. For hot weather, there’s also an option for ventilated front seats.

Cargo Storage

If you’re riding with a full load of passengers, you’ll benefit from 29.9 cubic feet of space behind the second row. This offers ample space to perform daily errands or to store a few suitcases for a family trip away. In case you need to transport more than just your regular grocery purchases, you can fold down the rear row of seating to access 63.9 cubic feet of storage.

With the Equinox’s higher trims, you can add a power liftgate and hands-free liftgate. These additions will make it easier for you if you regularly need to load and unload heavy or bulky items. Another great thing you’ll notice about the Equinox is its remote keyless entry, which allows you to open the doors at the touch of a button if you have your hands full when you’re doing your errands.

Entertainment and Technology

The standard touch screen with Chevy’s infotainment system has a 7-inch display. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you can connect your phone to stream music or get directions to your destination. The Equinox also features four USB ports and a wireless hot spot, which will help all passengers keep their electronic devices charged and connected whether you’re taking a short drive around town or heading further afield for the weekend or a vacation.

You can upgrade to an 8-inch screen and a navigation system. There are also options to add two USB ports and wireless device charging.

The Equinox’s voice recognition system is helpful if you want to perform simple tasks while staying focused on the road ahead.

Several optional technology features are available for you to enjoy a more comfortable ride, such as automatic climate control to manage cabin temperature. You can also add a color driver display if you want to keep up to speed on your Chevy’s performance while you’re on the go.

Driver Assistance and Safety

The Chevy Equinox comes with an impressive selection of standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning. The Equinox’s pedestrian detection also comes in handy in case you need to respond rapidly to an unexpected incident up ahead. Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety have acknowledged the Equinox’s impressive safety credentials by awarding it top ratings in their respective testing regimes.

Lane keep assist and lane departure warning, which are both standard, plus the option to add adaptive cruise control, are helpful features if you do a lot of driving on the highway. Two other safety features worth mentioning are the Teen Driver system, which allows you to limit the speed of your Equinox in case you have a younger family member who is learning to drive, and the optional surround-view camera to help you maneuver your SUV into a tight parking spot.

Chevy Equinox Trims

You have four trims to choose from when you purchase a new 2021 Equinox: L, LS, LT, and Premier. Here’s how each trim influences the interior features.

The base L trim offers cloth seat coverings, a six-speaker stereo, and the 7-inch infotainment screen. One of the benefits of stepping up to the LS trim is that you can choose to add a rear-seat infotainment system. This includes two touch screens, which are sure to bring lots of enjoyment for back-seat passengers during longer drives. Another optional add-on in the LS trim is an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat.

The LT trim adds the color driver’s display and satellite radio. In addition, you can pay an extra $2,045 for the Confidence and Convenience package, which gets you rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. You can also choose the Sports or Midnight editions, which cost an extra $995 and come with leather upholstery and memory settings for the driver’s seat.

In the range-topping Premier trim, leather upholstery is standard. You also get wireless device charging, the 8-inch infotainment display, and a hands-free liftgate. Optional add-ons include heated front seats and a power adjustable passenger’s seat.
