The next stop is at the Boiler Room, where you can try their famous Scotch eggs. Savor grilled cheese sandwiches at Teddy's Eatery & Parlor, formerly known as Rosey's Bistro & Bar. Below, we'll outline some of the differences and similarities between GMC and Chevrolet trucks to help you with your purchasing decision. more The Basics There's a reason that GMC and Chevrolet trucks seem so similar, and that's because they are both under the same parent umbrella - General Motors. The brands started as separate entities but eventually combined into one. Chevrolet merged with General Motors back in 1918, and then in 1943, General Motors completed the purchase of GMC. Over the years, General Motors has owned many different vehicle brands, but Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac remain. Up until recently, GMC and Chevrolet offered very similar vehicles. However, in 2019 Chevrolet launched its Silverado truck, and GMC released its Sierra truck. This was the first time that the two brands created something so different from one another, and that trend has continued on to today. The Similarities Let's start by discussing the similarities between the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra trucks. The biggest similarity is that both brands use the same GMT1000 platform. A vehicle's platform is essentially the critical dimension. These include the front axle centerline, the cowl, and the driver's hip-point. Since it takes a lot of work to engineer a new platform, many manufacturers share platforms among different vehicle brands. The Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are just one example. In addition to the same platform, GMC trucks and Chevy trucks also have the same drivetrain. This means they essentially function the same way when it comes to powering the vehicle. However, even within the drivetrain system, there are some differences between the trucks. After this, the similarities are roughly the same similarities you'd see between any other two cars. For example, they both have some of the more modern entertainment and safety features; however, you'll also find these in other trucks, not just those from GMC and Chevrolet. This is essentially where the similarities end. The Differences Now, onto the differences between the two brands. The biggest difference between GMC and Chevrolet trucks is who they are designed for. Generally speaking, GMC trucks are more for luxury users, while Chevrolet trucks are more for the average truck buyer. By aiming for two different markets, General Motors can reach more people without having their trucks compete against one another. It's this differentiation that produces many of the other differences you'll find between these trucks. For example, in the GMC Sierra, you can get a 6.2L V-8 engine perfect for offroading, while the similar Silverado Chevrolet comes with a 5.3L V-8 engine. Therefore, if you want a more powerful engine for offroading, you'd likely go with the GMC Sierra. In addition, on a truck like the GMC Denali, you'll find magnetic ride control dampers as a standard feature, while this is only an optional upgrade for the Chevrolet High Country. Some features are also unique to their specific brand. For instance, the GMC Sierra offers the carbon fiber CarbonPro pickup box, which isn't available in Chevrolet models. Cabin Road features handcrafted coffee, teas and herbal infusions, and a menu for goodies to go with your beverage that's ever-changing. There's also a fireplace and blankets to keep warm with during the fall and winter. We love the Cabin Road concept, except for one downside: limited hours. Currently, the Cabin is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. only, and they will be closed for a few days in September. Check out their website the night before you travel to make sure they are open and to find out what they'll have available in the ever-changing goodies menu during your visit. Walk the Trails in Grafton Grafton Parks & Recreation at 715 West 5th Street offers several perks to the Grafton community and visitors, like a public pool and several other activities across a network of parks. However, we highly recommend walking the trails after you've broken your fast. If, in your previous stop, you picked coffee over sit-down breakfast, our friends at Cabin Road Coffeehouse can give you local's insight on Grafton's trails. Otherwise, check out the map on the Grafton Parks & Recreation website. Alternative: Bring Your Furry Pal to Happy Trails Bark Park Sure, Grand Forks already has a couple of dog parks where you can take Fido. However, it's always nice to know we can find things to do with our furry friends. Happy Tails Bark Park is a doggie park that separates their fenced-in off-leash areas by your dog's weight. The Big Paws Field is for dogs that weigh 30 pounds or more, and the Wiggly Field is for furry buddies under 30 pounds. Please make sure always to supervise children within the dog park and pick up after your pet. Check out the other park rules on the Grafton Parks & Recreation website before you visit. Find the Bark Park at 819 West 5th Street. If You'd Rather Spend Your Day Golfing You might not be in the mood for breakfast, coffee, or exploring Grafton's trails. If that's the case, and you're into golf, visit the Fair Oaks Golf Course. Find it at 30 Golf Course Road in Grafton. The course includes nine holes spanning 2,900 yards of beautifully manicured grass. The Fair Oaks Golf Course Club House menu features sandwiches, burgers, fries (potato or sweet potato), and other goodies. You can expect to pay around $10 to $15 per person to eat, and daily rates for the course in 2021 are $14 for nine holes and $28 for 18 holes. You can also rent a cart for $14 on the nine-hole and $24 on the 18-hole option. Fair Oaks does not have a website, but you can find them on Facebook or call 701-352-3956. Their hours are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day, except for Friday when they close at 10 p.m., according to their Facebook page. Daily admission is $5, but what we like most about this public pool is the possibility of renting it for $75 an hour. We especially like the pool at Collette because they post a pool calendar on their Facebook page that shows which days it will be closed for cleaning. Neither Leistikow Park nor Collette Fitness Center advertises any concession stand or eatery near the pool, so we recommend planning for a nice energy-replenishing meal after your time swimming. Thai cuisine emphasizes a combination of delicious flavors and aromas and stimulates all five taste senses of sweet, sour, hot, salty, and neutral. Recommendations to try are chicken satay, tom kha (coconut soup) and pad Thai. The avocado salad with ginger dressing and curry puffs are delicious choices, as well. Customers appreciate that you can choose your level of heat on a scale from one to five when ordering from the menu. Turtle River State Park is perfect for biking and hiking in the summer and snowshoeing and cross-country skiing over the winter. There are plenty of other seasonal recreational activities to enjoy there as well, such as camping and fly-fishing in the warmer seasons and sledding once the snow falls. Turtle River State Park has secluded campsites, picnic areas, an amphitheater, and a playground for the younger kids. The park features over 10 different trails for hiking or mountain biking, including some that travel through wooded and hilly areas and other flat trails that meander gently alongside the river. Two of the longer trails there are Raven Ravine and The Hollows. Raven Ravine is a 2.46-mile wooded trail along the river that features a spectacular photo opportunity at the water crossing on the northern end of the trail. It connects to the campground, amphitheater, and playground, and has an elevation gain of 89 feet. The Hollows trail is 1.74 miles long and runs from the park's visitor center to the Hillside picnic area. It also provides trail access to the Hollow's Bridge picnic area and parking lot. This trail winds through the hills and alongside the river. Greenway of Greater Grand Forks The Greenway of Great Grand Forks is a trail system of paved paths along the Red River and Red Lake River between Grand Forks, North Dakota, and East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The Greenway also provides access to over 20 miles of asphalt trails, as well as the 100-mile Rural Bicycle Loop. The Greenway's main loop is an 8.8-mile trail with an elevation gain of 187 feet. The trail links the two cities and states over a pair of bridges designated for nonmotorized use only. In addition to the trails, the Greenway has several parks, a campground on the Minnesota side, golf and disc courses, shore fishing sites, and boat ramps available on both rivers. Local shops offer rentals of bikes, kayaks, and other recreational equipment. Winter activities such as cross-country skiing and sledding and ice skating are also available on the Greenway. Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area If you're looking for a vast natural area with landscapes ranging from cliffs and valleys to flat prairies, wetlands, and forests, the 2,800 acres of the Pembina Gorge State Recreation Area has it all. There are 6.5 miles of hiking trails plus over 20 miles of multipurpose trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking, or off-highway vehicle use. Other recreational activities are available, such as horseback riding or kayaking, including kayak rentals. The area has an elevation of 1,381 feet above sea level. Lady Slipper Loop and the Lady Slipper Extension are non-motorized trails ideal for hikers and cyclists that total about 6 miles of trails. The multiuse Three Sisters Trail adds over 20 more miles of paths to explore and allows the use of motorized dirt bikes, side-by-sides, and four-wheelers. Pipestem Creek Trail You can travel to Jamestown for several great trails near Pipestem Dam and Pipestem Lake. Pipestem Creek Trail is a challenging but thrilling mountain bike trail. There's a less difficult 3-mile outer loop suitable for biking or hiking, while the entire 8-mile trail features mowed trails in open grassy areas as well as rocky dirt trails through hilly woods with steep climbs and descents. There's a total elevation gain of 1,273 feet on the trails. Although Pipestem Creek Trail is in Jamestown, nearly 3 hours from Grafton, there are three other excellent nearby trails in Jamestown to check out. The North Ridge Trail, Splitrock Trail, and Overlook Trail are all fantastic bike trails. It would make a wonderful weekend getaway to visit all the trails and camp nearby. There are two good camping options in Jamestown, Lakeside Campground or Pelican Point Landing and Campground. The camping areas offer a wide array of activities including boating, kayaking, and fishing. There's so much to do in Jamestown, it's worth the trip for avid mountain bikers or nature enthusiasts. Lake Bronson State Park You can get from Grafton to Lake Bronsxzon State Park in Minnesota in about an hour's drive. This park has some great trails, including a 7-mile mowed trail to hike or bike that runs all the way around Lake Bronson. Although the path is named Around the Lake Trail, it's rather misleading since Lake Bronson is actually a reservoir. In addition to the Around the Lake Trail, there are also other trails to explore, including 5 miles of paved bike trails and 14 miles of relatively flat trails through the prairie and along the lake. Lake Bronson State Park has the largest observation tower in the state's park system where you can oversee the prairie and forests. The park offers horseback riding, fishing, swimming, and boating, so there are plenty of additional recreational activities to engage in. There's also camping so you can easily make Lake Bronson State Parke an enjoyable overnight getaway. The park is a Geocaching checkpoint and you can borrow free GPS units at the park office. The approximate elevation of Lake Bronson State Park is 1,001 feet above sea level. They offer the only university Musical Theatre program in the state and you can catch the prestigious student shows. The Burtness is the main performance space of the UND Theatre Arts and seats up to 365 people in its proscenium theatre. The building also has a laboratory theatre with flexible seating, and costume and scenic shops. This is one of the premier theatres in the state with its student productions of original works. The Burtness Theatre was built in 1962 in the campus's collegiate gothic architecture style and features an imposing square red brick exterior surrounded by dark green shrubbery, tall trees, and a pleasant lawn. It is dedicated to and named after Olger Burtness who was a UND graduate in the early 1900s. However, updated sound and lighting equipment ensures you have a high-quality theatre viewing experience. The Burtness Theatre is located at 281 Centennial Drive on the central campus near the English Coulee River and the Celebrate Park with its Adelphi Fountain. Empire Arts Center and Theatre Company The Empire Arts Center is located at 415 DeMers Avenue in historic downtown Grand Forks. Its building was once the first purpose-built movie house in town, the New Grand theater, which opened in 1919 to enthusiastic crowds. Now the theater is a cultural center of the town and hosts the UND Art Collections Gallery which displays local artists alongside works by such acclaimed artists as Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, and Audrey Flack, plus historic art from back as far as ancient Egypt. This quaint 100-seat theatre is housed in the historic tan brick Number One Fire Hall in downtown Grand Forks. It was bought and renovated in the 80s to become the home of the Greater Grand Forks Community Theatre, one of the oldest theatre groups in the county. The GGFCT is a non-profit, entirely volunteer-run group. The Fire Hall Theatre survived a serious flood with three feet of water in 1997 due to the flat terrain of Grand Forks and the Fire Hall's location near the riverside. Besides being an important showcase for local community theatre the Fire Hall also offers a Children's Summer Camp where kids can learn and have fun acting with peers who share their interests. A month of rehearsals will end in two days of performances. The cost is $75 for elementary kids who will be rehearsing two days a week and $125 for middle school kids entering who have camp from Monday to Thursday. The Fire Hall Theatre is located at 412 2nd Avenue North by the Grand Forks High School and just minutes from the Red River of the North waterfront. Chester Fritz Auditorium The Chester Fritz Auditorium is another theatre of the UND. It was built in the 1960s, partly with a $1 million donation by Chester Fritz, a proud UND alumni and international financier. The rest of the money for this distinctive auditorium came from state and private funding. On October 12, 1972, the auditorium held its first event, a performance by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonic Choir. Since then it has played host to a large variety of shows from country-western to ballet, opera, and symphonies, as well as prestigious Broadway Theatre shows, and local UND events. The Chester Fritz Auditorium is a grand building with over 2,300 red seats, and in the lobby you'll find the Italian-made Starcher Chandelier with about 30 lamps and over five thousand prism, bead, and teardrop crystals. The Auditorium is a center for the performing arts that is one of the finest facilities for several stares around and brings many nationally acclaimed performers to its stage and photos of past performers line the halls. At the Chester Fritz Auditorium you can enjoy some world-class shows not usually found in North Dakota. It is located at 3475 University Ave Stop 9028. Towing increases from 9,500 to 11,500 pounds when you make the switch. The LT also comes nicely equipped with features such as heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 10-way power driver's seat, and dual-zone climate control. But what about the Z? Step up to the LTZ trim, and you'll get the Bose premium sound system, leather seats, a Chevytec spray-on bedliner, a larger driver information center, navigation, LED headlamps, and more. Chevy's Infotainment 3 Premium and wireless charging make the LTZ a classy mobile office. It's ready for white collar and blue collar work. But do you every feel like you're piling firewood in the back of a luxury car? What happened to the humble trucks? All About Business Sometimes the best tool for the job is a simple one. We enjoy the comfort of the modern executive pickup, but when it comes to trucks and luxury, sometimes less is more. The Silverado WT ("work truck") gets back to the truck's dirty roots. You get two naturally aspirated engines: the 5.3-liter V-8 or the 4.3-liter EcoTec V-6 for more fuel efficiency. A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard. Basic features like a regular cab, 8-foot bed, vinyl seats, halogen headlamps, and a smaller information cluster will remind you of a simpler time for trucks. Thanks to Bluetooth and a back-up camera, though, the WT it still up-to-date. Looking for more connectivity and capability without all the fanciness of the LTZ? Choose the Silverado Custom. Get cargo bed lighting and the trailering package to pull nearly 6 tons. You'll get OnStar, keyless entry, SiriusXM, and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. This trim enjoys some modern touches, but it still has cloth seats and rubberized floor mats so it's comfortable at the job site. Work truck configurations, with or without a bed, are customizable and endless. So Many Engines You've already seen mention of three engine choices for the 1500, but there are three more. Picking the right Silverado might begin with falling for an engine and transmission combination. What can you put under the hood? 2.7-liter Turbo I4: 310 horsepower and 348 pound-feet of torque with the eight-speed automatic. 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6: 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque with the eight-speed automatic. 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V-6: 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque with the six-speed automatic. 5.3-liter Ecotec3 V-8: 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque with the six-speed automatic. 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and Auto Stop/Start: 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque with the eight-speed automatic for increased fuel economy. 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 with Dynamic Fuel Management and Auto Stop/Start: 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque with the 10-speed automatic. Tows up to 13,300 pounds. Silverado's engine choices allow you to strike the perfect balance between power and economy. You can achieve that elusive target of just enough engine. So what do you tow? What do you haul and how much does it weigh? Know how much capability you require, then browse until you find the powertrain you love. In that case, you may need to step up to the three-quarter-ton Silverado 2500 HD or 1-ton 3500. With a towing capacity of up to 36,000 pounds, choosing one of these models means you can say yes to every towing and hauling job. More good news: LTZ means just about the same in HD. Special heavy-duty touches include a power lock and release tailgate and hitch guidance with hitch view. The LTZ is a refined beast. You still have the practical options of WT, LT, or Custom trim. However, the best-equipped HD is the High Country. Get special 16-spoke, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a power up and down tailgate, the Bose sound system, heated rear seats, and extensive leather and wood throughout the interior. Your engine choices are simpler. Choose the 6.6-liter gas V-8 with a six-speed automatic to tow up to 17,370 pounds. Get serious with the 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel and 10-speed Allison transmission combination. Some serious truckers will only tow and haul with a Duramax and an Allison. Seat up to six and carry everything with the double cab, long bed version. The Chevy Silverado LTZ is a great choice, but far from the only one. In the Silverado family, you have an amazing array of engines, options, and special features. That's before looking into the HD range, where the Silverado becomes a work hero. The Chevrolet Equinox is a tremendously popular crossover that has many appealing attributes, including an exceptional predicted reliability rating, athletic handling, roomy and comfortable seating, and an intuitive and feature-laden infotainment system. In an effort to maintain this crossover's dominance in the competitive compact SUV segment, Chevrolet gave the 2022 model a major refresh. Below are some of the notable updates for the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. more Trim Levels Image via Flickr by TuRbO_J via CC BY 2.0 The 2021 Chevrolet Equinox comes in four trim levels, including the base L, the LS, the LT, and the range-topping Premier. For the 2022 model year, the SUV no longer offers the L trim, but the new RS model features sportier styling cues. The Equinox's Exterior The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox looks markedly different from its predecessor with a new grille design, more distinctive headlamps, and refreshed bumpers. These changes contribute to a sharper, bolder, and more cohesive appearance, making the crossover more attractive than ever before. The following is a list of other exterior changes to the new Chevy Equinox: Addition of four new exterior color options as replacements for four previous color options. Addition of LED daytime running headlights as replacements for halogen composite and HID headlights. Removal of LED daytime running lights with a separate cavity. Standardization of LED headlights. Removal of chrome mirror caps. Addition of front reflex light marker. Removal of active grille shutters. Addition of heated, power-adjustable, and manual-folding outside mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators. Removal of heated, power-adjustable, and auto-dimming outside mirrors. The RS sets itself apart from the rest of the lineup with a gloss black grille, black bow-ties, black side rails, 19-inch Dark Android wheels, and black badging. The Premier is also easily distinguishable with unique enhancements such as LED headlights and taillights, 19-inch machine-faced wheels, a gloss black grille with chrome inserts, and logo projection on the lift-gate. Body-color mirror caps are standard in the LT, RS, and Premier. Powertrain The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is equipped with the base engine of the previous year's model, which is a 1.5-liter turbo-four. Rated at 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, this engine works with a six-speed automatic transmission to power the front wheels or optionally all wheels. With this combination, this Chevy SUV is capable of handling most driving tasks and towing up to 3,500 pounds, which is impressive for a compact SUV. The optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine available on the outgoing Equinox won't be returning, making the 1.5-liter turbo-four the only engine option for the 2022 model. Equinox's Interior On the inside, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox gets new trim pieces, color finishes, and seat materials for a more stylish and modern look. It also receives a new switch that allows you to disable the automatic engine start-stop feature. Additionally, the SUV is now fitted with a single-zone manual air-conditioning system, which replaces the single-zone manual air-conditioning system in last year's model. There are also some trim-specific updates worth noting. For instance, the visor vanity mirrors on the LS trim are no longer illuminated. The Premier looks and feels more sophisticated with high black gloss finish on the console and French stitching on some surfaces. It also has a heated steering wheel as standard equipment. The RS features black upholstery with red stitching and an RS shift knob, which gives it a sportier feel. Other than these changes, the interior of the Chevy Equinox remains the same for the 2020 model year, featuring quality materials and spacious seating. The new SUV continues to provide a generous amount of legroom and headroom for both front and rear passengers, as well as a capacious storage bin in the center console and plenty of cup-holders. Infotainment Features The 2022 Chevy Equinox is equipped with all of the infotainment features found in its predecessor, such as a 7- or 8-inch touch-screen display, a six- or seven-speaker audio system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, four or six USB ports, voice recognition, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. However, the crossover receives a number of tech updates, including standard SiriusXM satellite radio and available wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Safety Features One of the most appealing aspects of the Chevrolet Equinox is its extensive list of driver-assistance features. For the 2022 model year, the SUV steps up its safety game with the addition of automatic parking assistance and front and rear parking assistance to its long list of available active safety features. Safety alert seat was formerly optional on all models, but it's now standard on the Premier. Packages Chevrolet also made a lot of changes to the packages available for the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. Some of these updates include: Addition of the RS Leather Package. Addition of the Advanced Safety Package. Addition of front and rear parking assistance to the Driver Confidence II Package on the LT and Premier. Availability of the Driver Confidence II Package on the LT. Addition of heated steering wheel to the Infotainment Package. Addition of the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 Plus system with integrated navigation to the Infotainment II Package. Removal of front fog lights and the universal home remote system from the Driver Convenience Package. Removal of heated steering wheel from the Driver Convenience Package II. Removal of the Leather Package on the LT. Removal of the Midnight Edition on the LT. Removal of the Sport Edition on the LT. Removal of the Redline Edition on the Premier. Prices Most of the trim levels of the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox cost less than their equivalents for the previous model year. Starting at $26,995, the base LS costs $600 less than its predecessor. The LT comes with a sticker price of $28,905, making it $700 cheaper than last year's model. The RS will set you back at least $31,295, while the loaded Premier has a minimum price of $32,195, a $500 decrease. The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is expected to hit showrooms in the summer of 2021.
