Take the whole family out for a hike on any of these Crookston favorites: Kreutzberg Trail: This trail has a natural surface and is perfect for hiking in the summer months and cross-country skiing in the winter months. Castle Park Trail: Take a stroll on this natural surface trail. Castle Park Trail is also the home of Crookston's popular Story Walks for kids. Story Walks allow kids and their families to walk through the pages of a book as they follow a trail. Aunt Polly Trail: The Aunt Polly trail is a natural surface trail used for hiking and cross-country skiing. Fisher Trail: This short trail offers a quick walk and some fresh air. Veterans Military Memorial Loop: This paved trail is a great place to enjoy a walk or ride your bike. The trailhead is at the intersection of US Highway 2 and Fairfax Avenue. This looping trail features life-size monuments and lots of beautiful natural scenery. Flags line this walkway on special occasions and holidays. A picnic shelter is also available. Red River Valley Natural History Area Less than a mile from Crookston, the Red River Valley Natural History Area covers 85 acres of ancient Lake Agassiz. Although it is primarily used as a living laboratory by the University of Minnesota, the public is always welcome to hike on the natural surface trails. The Red River Valley trails wind through several habitats, including cottonwood forest, willow swamp, cattail marsh, aspen forest, and prairie. The Red River Valley trails are also a great place to go birdwatching. Tympanuchus covers 840 acres of beautiful natural grasslands, including flowers like the purple coneflower and blazing star. Hiking trails run along the beach ridges of ancient glacial Lake Agassiz. In addition to hiking, many visit Tympanuchus to look for birds, including prairie chickens. A parking lot is available for easy parking and access to the area. Agassiz Recreational Trail The Agassiz Recreational Trail is best known for its scenic views of the Wild Rice and Sand Hill Rivers. This 52-mile trail runs along abandoned railroad tracks and alternates between densely wooded areas and wide-open farmland. Hikers often see lots of native wildlife along the Agassiz trail. The trail is a natural surface, including grass, dirt, and gravel. In addition to hiking, Agassiz Recreational Trail is a great place to ride your bike, horse, off-road vehicle, or snowmobile. Restrooms and picnic shelters are available at regular intervals along the trail. A large campground is at the trail's midpoint. In addition to using the trail for recreation, many use the Agassiz Trail to get to other towns from Crookston. The Agassiz Recreational Trail connects Crookston to Ulen, Twin Valley, Fertile, and Gary. Parking and trail access is available in Ulen off Highway 32 and at the intersection of Highway 102 and 9. Belgium Wildlife Management Area Belgium Wildlife Management Area has several ridge trails on its southern end. Belgium offers the opportunity to explore 190 acres of grasslands, marshes, and forests. Many migratory birds, waterfowl, deer, and other woodland animals make their home in Belgium. If you visit at the right time, you can also pick native berries, such as grapes, choke-cherries, and thorn apples. Be sure to bring knee or hip boots if you plan on exploring the marshes in Belgium. You can easily access the Belgium Wildlife Management Area via township roads. Greenway of Greater Grand Forks The Greenway of Greater Grand Forks offers over 21 miles of paved trails, including a 10-mile loop that provides easy access to other nature trails in Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Trail endpoints are in Grand Forks' Riverside Park and East Grand Forks' Folsom Park. The Greenway trails are a great place to bike, inline skate, walk, and cross-country ski. Bicyclists can also use the Greenway trail to access the 100-mile paved Rural Bicycle Loop in Grand Forks. Kiosks along the Greenway provide information on the history of the area, geologic features, and wildlife. In addition to the trails, Greenway has playgrounds, picnic areas, fishing spots, campgrounds, and golf courses. The Greenway is easy to jump on, with more than 10 access points available. There are also 11 restrooms and 14 parking areas along the trails. All trails in the Greenway are wheelchair accessible. Sand Hill Recreation Area The Sand Hill Recreation Area is just down the road in Fertile. Sand Hill offers over 12 miles of trails used for hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. Several horse riding trails also accommodate snowmobiles in the winter. Sand Hill also has 3 miles of specially designated snowshoe trails. Visitors to Sand Hill can enjoy the beautiful panoramic views from Scout Tower, the ever-changing dunes, brightly colored wildflowers, native birds, and stunning river views. Sand Hill Recreation Area has several easily accessible restrooms and a nature center. Snowshoe rentals are available at the nature center in the winter months. Bottineau Trail Named after Pierre Bottineau, a Minnesota frontiersman, this 3-mile trail runs through the town of Red Lake Falls on former train tracks. Bottineau's paved surface is perfect for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, hiking, and cross-country skiing. The southern portion of the trail passes through residential and industrial properties. The northern end of Bottineau runs through a densely forested area. The Bottineau trail includes two old railroad bridges that cross over the Red Lake and Clearwater Rivers. A Silverado 1500 equipped with this engine can reach 60 mph in as quick as 6.4 seconds and return up to 17/23 mpg. 6.2-liter V-8: As the largest engine in the lineup, the 6.2-liter V-8 generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque and connects exclusively to a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It propels the truck to 60 mph in an impressive 6.0 seconds. It also hosts a youth league every winter for about four weeks. Truck manufacturers use various names to describe their cabin configurations, sizes, and styles. This disparity in uniform terminology leads to confusion when discussing competing trucks. You'll hear terms like Super Cab, Super Crew, Crew Max, Quad Cab, Double Cab, and even Mega Cab used to describe truck cabs. Regardless of the name, only four types of cabs exist: regular cab, extended cab, crew cab, and extended crew cab. To answer the question of which cab you should choose when you buy a new truck, you should know the differences between them. To help you get started, here's an overview of the differences between a crew cab and extended cab trucks. more What is a Regular Cab For decades, trucks were built with only a regular cab. They didn't even call them regular cabs because there weren't any other types of cabs to distinguish between. Today, regular cabs have a single front row of seating, either a bench that seats three or two bucket seats to fit two people. The bucket seat configuration usually comes with a center console/armrest with storage inside. You won't find a back seat in a regular cab. You might not even see much more than a few inches of space behind the front seat. Modern regular cab trucks use the space saved inside for a longer bed. Extended Cab An extended cab comes in various styles depending on the manufacturer. This category often causes confusion because truck manufacturers seldom use this exact term. GMC and Chevrolet call them Double Cabs, while Ford uses the term SuperCabs, and Dodge calls them Quad Cabs. Toyota makes it even more confusing by calling the Tacoma trucks with this style an Access Cab, while the Tundra lineup uses the term Double Cab. Nissan likes to use the term King Cab to describe its extended cabs. Some extended cab trucks have two doors, some have three, and some have four. Usually, extended cabs have two rows of seats, but even this can vary. Some rear seats fold down like jump seats, but a bench seat occupies the space more often. In almost every case, you have less passenger space in the rear of an extended cab, particularly in terms of leg room. Extended cabs with two doors offer the least amount of rear passenger space. Those with four doors typically come with shorter, rear-hinged back doors like suicide doors. Even the windows shrink in size, with some of them only propping open rather than rolling down. Doors with rear hinges offer the easiest access to the back seat, whether you store gear or carry people. If you don't need to take the work crew with you every day but do tote around some tools, this configuration can work well. You can seat up to six passengers with a front bench seat and five with front bucket seats. The rear passengers may not be comfortable, but you'll get them where you need to go. Crew Cab A crew cab comes with four full-sized doors. Nissan, Ram, GMC, and Chevrolet use the term Crew Cab when describing trucks that feature four full-sized doors. Ford likes the name SuperCrew, and Toyota continues to confuse, calling the Tundra four-door trucks CrewMax and Tacoma four-door trucks a Double Cab. The doors of a crew cab truck open normally, like those of passenger cars, and the rear seat almost always features a bench style. With a bench front seat, you can fit up to six passengers in a crew cab. This larger cab offers truck owners the flexibility to carry a work crew to the job site, pick up the kids from school, and run players to soccer practice. And you can do it all with a bed full of lumber for your home improvement project or your next contracting install. While you can carry up to six passengers, those in the middle seat in either row will find the fit rather snug. Most manufacturers offer a single design standard with upgrades available as an option or on specific trims. Space varies with crew cabs based on factors like dashboard configuration, center console options, and other accessories. On the whole, you can expect more space for front and rear passengers in terms of leg, hip, and shoulder room. And because a crew cab has four full-sized doors, the rear windows are also full-sized and will roll down. Extended Crew Cab As the name implies, an extended crew cab offers even more space than a regular crew cab. Some manufacturers even create additional storage space behind the second-row seats. Manufacturers have started adding storage compartments into the rear seat-backs and beneath the rear bench with clever seats that fold down or up. Extended crew cabs have the most interior cabin space of any truck. You can usually identify an extended cab simply by looking at the extra length of the cab behind the rear doors. Cab Size vs. Towing and Payload The advent of the larger cab has the unfortunate impact of reduced towing capacity and payload. You often hear about platforms that manufacturers use to build their trucks on. These platforms come with a fixed dimensional capacity, meaning they are only so long and so wide. If a manufacturer adds three feet to the length of the cabin, three feet usually get subtracted from the bed. A smaller bed can hold only so much, so the payload capacity gets reduced. The same principle extends to towing, but for a slightly different reason. Adding length to the cabin adds more weight in the frame, body, and interior seating. Because the powertrain can only carry so much, the added weight to the cabin must be subtracted from the towing capacity. In most cases, this trade-off has a negligible impact on capacities, but if you're towing and hauling for a living, you should scrutinize this exchange. Pioneer Village features several historical buildings, such as farmhouses, various shops, banks, and more. Bjerklie Drug Store was built in 1887 in the city of Gilby. View its original ice cream and soda fountain as well as many of its original furnishings. Dobrinz School, constructed in 1895, was the first school to be built in Mapleton Township. It is a typical one-room schoolhouse of that era and was designed to teach students from to. Dobrinz schoolhouse was one of the first three buildings to be moved to Bonanzaville. The Company B Rides Free exhibit looks at the story of Company B of the First North Dakota Volunteer Infantry during the Spanish-American War. 100 Years of Women's Suffrage is displayed in honor of the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in 2020. A History of Red River Valley Bonanza Farms shares the history of Bonanza Farms and how it inspired the name of the museum. Main Street, North Dakota presents artifacts from various historical businesses across North Dakota, such as a dentist's office, beauty parlor, post office, and more. Thunder Road Located in Fargo, North Dakota, Thunder Road is a local amusement park with loads of fun and entertainment for the entire family. The 1,000-foot go-kart track is the main attraction with 36 karts and nine winding turns. There are also two unique 18-hole miniature golf courses that feature ponds, rivers, waterfalls, and a volcano. The six-stall batting cage has both slow-pitch softball and various baseball pitches.
